RESIDENTS in Taman Mutiara Puchong (TMP) took the initiative to plant trees in their neighbourhood to help in the government's greening effort after each family were urged to adopt a tree and grow them in their front yards and other suitable locations in their residential areas.
The go-green campaign, a joint effort between TMP and the Subang Jaya Muncipal Council (MPSJ) was launched by state senior executive councillor for Industry, Investment and Trade Teresa Kok and MPSJ president Datuk Adnan Md Ikhsan.
“For sustainable development, everyone should do their part to keep the earth green. It does not matter what species of trees or plants as long as we make an effort to keep our area green,'' said Teresa.
“As parents we have a responsibility to teach our children to respect the environment, as it is not an easy task to explain the concept of global warming to young children if there are no trees.
“How are our children to know the importance of trees if they are not taught at an early age,'' she said.
Meanwhile, Adnan said MPSJ was all for the campaign and that community leaders could work with the council in the greening effort.
Since the TMP is fairly a new residential area, there were not many families which took part in the campaign but all those who were present made some concerted effort to adopt a tree.
The families tend to their respective adopted tree until they mature.

We are looking forward to the fruits of our labour. However, it is very sad to know that there are some who still not take any initiative to water the plants. It only takes 2 bottles of water from each and every resident who frequent the park to water some plants. We are not asking anyone to water the entire park but imagine this, when you take your dogs for a walk, just bring along a bottle or two to water some plants. Those who exercise in the morning, if there are 10 of you, bring lah 2 bottles each to help water our fruit trees. Considering the weather that we have at the moment, our fruit trees need water. Often enough, whenever, I take my dog for a walk, I hear residents commenting about how are trees are deprived of water....all talk but no action...The fruits are for all to share but at least, rather then just commenting, use that same energy into watering our fruit trees. Parents with kids at home, educate them to care for the trees as well. We have 20 kids playing in the play ground. If each child brings a bottle or two, we can water at least 30 to 50 trees a day. With this, I sincerely hope that everyone put in a fair share in watering the plants in order for all of us to reap the fruits of our labor someday. :)
