Sin City Puchong

By Teoh El Sen December 03, 2008 Categories: News/Malay Mail Online

The residents do not want it, but Puchong could soon outstrip Chow Kit for the dubious distinction of being the most infamous red light district in the country.
Residents are furious the authorities have allowed the rapidly growing township to degenerate into a bustling haven for prostitution.
An official of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council, under which Puchong falls, confirmed vice activities have increased.
In recent weeks, the council closed down three vice dens, and it is just the tip of the problem.
"Apparently, prostitutes have moved from the city to Puchong. Prostitution used to be quite rampant in Subang Jaya, but now it seems Puchong has become the hotspot."
In the wake of the hookers have come other vices.
The official said the council was trying to check the vice activity by limiting permits for massage parlours, which usually turned into prostitution dens. To date, 40 permits for traditional massage outlets have been approved.

Councillor Gary Chong, dismayed that Puchong has recently been dubbed a "dirty" area, called for more drastic action against offenders.
"It is getting more serious. There have been a lot of illegal hotels that have been raided and closed down in recent months."
He said such illegal premises were mushrooming fast, citing Bandar Puteri as one of the places when he has found illegal massage parlours operating.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok also wants sterner action taken.
She highlighted a case of two Chinese nationals who claimed they were forced to become prostitutes but escaped last Sunday after more than a week of being locked up and starved in a house in Taman Mutiara, Puchong.
"These girls, aged 21 and 19, had been deceived into thinking there were legal job opportunities here," said Kok, adding that the pair flew home to China at 4.50pm yesterday.

They had lodged a police report with the help of a local resident who spotted them wandering about after they escaped from their "prison".
Selangor police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar declined comment on the vice problems in Puchong.

  1. I would like to add to the article published "Sin City Puchong" 3rd December 2008, that there has been an increase in the rental of properties in Taman Mutiara Puchong and the surrounding area especially gated and guarded housing developments.
This is the trend now and further investigations is definitely warranted as the very gated and guarded concept of community living is now being threaten by the unscrupulous and criminal organization by renting properties in these area to provide better cover to house employees for criminal activities which includes vice/prostitutes, money lenders/Ah Longs and probably also drug dealers.
The row of shop houses sitting behind Tesco Puchong recently had a new "hotel" opened with many pubs surrounding the establishments, it is but curiosity for one to consider why the sprawling businesses of these operators goes undetected by the local authorritiy such as MPSJ or even the local police beat base stationed in Puchong Jaya.
Afffirmative action needs to be taken and soon before these social ills spirals beyond recourse and more innocent people fall victims. I urge MPSJ and Bukit Aman to seriously look into this and to immediately wrestle this epidemic currently sweeping this good land of Puchong, which in fact is the fastest growing township in the Selangor state which contributes the most tax to the coffers hence Puchong needs more police personnel and more MPSJ enforcement officers to govern and to keep illegal and criminal activities at bay or to ward them off before they actually do become a menace to the residents in the area.

  2. Just last week we had a lousy experience with one of the neighbours on TMP6 which we believe is being tenanted out. This particular neighbour is occupying one of the end lots and in the house it is very common to see average 4 - 5 cars parked within the house compound and also outside. The people staying there are young fellas who don't exactly look friendly, they are also very low profile.

My mother in law came for a visit, driving her wira from outstation. She parked her wira on the main road beside the curb near this house but not obstructing for one night but next morning she discovered three of her tires were flat. Furthermore, her car was lodged so close in the middle by two cars that it was impossible to drive out. We didn't have proof of who did it but had a high suspicion it was one of the tenants in that house. With a TMP guard we rang the door bell many times, waited long and eventually this guy came out and drove his car away. We also had to spend RM30 to get a mechanic to come and fix the tires.

  3. It is very important that all residents in a certain community act responsibly to report any incidents with proof or wihout for the record. This is important to note cases with criminal elements to ascertain the impact of these elements to the said community.
"ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO SUCCEED IS THAT GOOD MEN DO NOTHING"
As residents in the community we are all responsible to act in a socially responsible manner to be the preventive tool by using the proper channel to report these incidents.
To all residents in any commnunity please take the initiative to report these cases accordingly:
    1. If you live in a gated and guarded community please forward the complaints to the management office in writing and submit
    2. Otherwise make a report to the nearest police station. If the police do not act in a justifiable manner then please kindly inform your local constituent's representative.

  4. I also suspect the unit no. 1 Jalan TMP 7C is also tenanted out, which so many cars drive to this unit I'm also not sure are they the tenants or their visitors.
But there are few driver who like to drive very fast when they turn in from TMP 7C, of course they are also don't look very friendly to approach and all of tehm are youngster.

I do recall that RA is looking into the road bump and I wish it can be consider on this road as well.

    Many thanks

  6. I think which house is not as important as the fact that these people are actually here. It is positive to note that right after the said China girls case, another group of Thai girls were apprehended by the cops as well somewhere in Puchong. The details of whcih I am not too concerned but after the arrest the police officers found out that these girls were residing in a house unit in Taman Mutiara Puchong. They have only been in TMP less than 2 weeks.
The lesson here is actually for all the house unit owners whom should actually be more careful when letting out their premises. They should exercise more care and check the background of these individuals. They are actually putting residents safety and security at risk in TMP by placing more emphasis on their pocket than anything else. Bottomline is that there is a need for mindset change and for this to happen will take time and many rounds of "I told you so" encounters by friends and relatives of these people concern if they are at all concern in the first place.

  7. Where is not as important as the fact that they are using TMP as a place to house these activities or personnel related to such activities.
However having said that all we need to do as residents in TMP is to be more concerned for the well being of all in TMP and to do our part to report any incidents we feel is harmful. We just have to exercise our social responsibility as a responsible resident and once we start the ball rolling these -ve elements will find it very difficult to operate.
Previously they were musrooming due to the fact that many chose to be quiet and with the attitude of I could not care less if it is not my problem. All it took for the chain reaction to happen was a kind and good samaritan to assist the 2 china girls to escape their very dark fate and the rest is.........
I also believe that unit owners should exercise more responsibility when letting their premises, they should thoroughly check the background of the tenants and be more disriminatory rather than to quickly sign the tenancy.
They have to weigh the possibility that they could jeorpardize the safety and security of TMP if they choose the wrong tenant to occupy their unit here and they will have to take the responsibility if in the event the tenants are engaged in illegal or criminal activities as conspirators.
The RA could also take legal action if there is a case to pursue and if negligence on the part of the landlord is very obvious and habitual in tenanting their units to shady people etc which can be seen as a justifiable concern in regards to the safety of the residents here especially children and women in TMP.
My personal plea to all residents in TMP is to show more concern and to participate in community policing as it is your inherent responsibility to do so for your safety and security. You must give a hoot in order for others to do the same. The security guards in TMP are mere deterents but when push come to shove it is still the will of the residents and internal cooperation that will ensure a higher level of security and peace of mind.

  8. This may not a right channel for me to post this compliment but I think if something is good we should share as well, maybe the webmaster would like to consider to create a section for compliment so that we can praise for those good samaritan.

On the 8th Dec (Mon), about 7.30pm I saw the chinese uncle security guard who station at the Phase 3A station is blowing whistle to defer a group of teenagers from climbing over the fence after they finish their fishing at the lake.
Then he escort along the fence until the end of the Phase 3 just to make sure they don't turn back to climb over the fence.

I know this maybe his paid job to take care of the TMP security but I would like to compliment that at least he take up the resposibility to do his patrol.
